Ssendegeya was shot dead last week on Sunday by unknown assailants at around 2am at Nturo village, Chihe parish, Nyakinama sub-county in Kisoro district.

Elly Matte, the Kigezi region Police spokesperson, said Police arrived at the scene immediately after being notified only to find when the assailant(s) had already taken off and Ssendegeya already lifeless.

He told this news website last week that Police had arrested suspects to help with investigations.

The suspects identified Sikola Nyiramajambere, Issah Mvano and Asuman Tito Hahumakwiha all of Bunagana parish, Muramba sub-county.

Matte said preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects had a civil suit in court and the deceased was the lawyer for the defendant, a one Migyera in whose favour the judgement was read.

“This is said to have annoyed the plaintiffs to the extent that they uttered threatening words against the lawyer,” Matte said.

Now, Police has revealed that Munyaneza  Charles alias Seruhasha Saddam, a Congolese national has turned himself in at the Mbarara Police station after learning (in the media) that he was a suspect in the incident.

Munyaneza, 33, is said to be a former M23  rebel, a refugee and resident of Nakivale Refugee settlement camp in Isingiro district.

Elly Matte says Munyaneza Mbarara police delivered the suspect to Kisoro police station for interrogation.

The other suspect who has been arrested is identified as Ndagizimana Craude, 42, also a Congolese national and former M23 rebel.

According to Police, he claims to be a refugee and resident of Bunagana town board, Muramba sub-county, in Kisoro district.

“This suspect partly admits the offence and he is the one connecting us to the prime suspects,”  Matte said in a statement on Sunday.

“He further alleges that one Nyiramajambere Scola a resident of Bunagana who had a civil suit in court is the one who hired the assailants”.

The third suspect who is now under custody is Mfitundinda  Steven alias Season who is aged 29.

Mfitundinda is Boda boda rider at Bunagana stage resident of Kabaya village, Karambi parish, Nyarubuye sub-county in Kisoro district.

Police said that Ndagizimana alleges that Mfitundinda was the one who rode the assailants on the motorcycle.

Others who had been arrested earlier for uttering words of threats to the deceased include Nyiramajambere Scola (59), Mvano alias Vianny Issah (24) who was the plaintiff in civil suit and Hagumakwiha Assuman (59), a husband to Nyiramajambere who allegedly sold a piece of land at Shs 8m to hire the killers.

Police say the case file was submitted to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) in Kisoro for perusal and legal guidance. Matte says that upon gathering enough evidence, the six suspects will be charged to court.
