The President of Uganda Journalists Association (UJA), Kazibwe Bashir Mbazira, has returned into the country after a fortnight in a Nairobi hospital in Kenya where he was receiving medical treatment.

Kazibwe was admitted at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) on June 4 following abdominal complications while hosting his TV show on NBS television but was discharged days later.

However, after failing to register complete relief, the investigative journalist opted to be flown to an undisclosed hospital in Nairobi where he has been undergoing treatment.

On Wednesday, the leader of journalists in the country, who also works with Bukedde radio used his Facebook page to reveal that his doctors in Kenya confirmed that he was poisoned.

“Am writing this with a strong mind and spirit whose body has been taken to the edge of death only to be saved by the Master of our Destiny-Allah,” wrote Kazibwe.

“It has been 18 excruciatingly painful days of coming face-to-face with death itself. The confirmed cause? Lethal Poisoning. Why? The doers will answer to their Lord,” he adds.

He says doctors advised him to keep on medication for the next six months with a physical medical review and re-examination every month.

According to Kazibwe, the events surrounding his poisoning have made him resolutely firm and high in spirit to stick to what matters most in his career as a journalist. He said he intends to explain to the public what exactly transpired in the days leading to and during his illness.

“In the coming days, I will be sharing with you part of what happened and how these scary events unfolded to this moment,” he said.

Speaking to SoftPower News from his home on Thursday morning, Kazibwe said despite some abdominal pains, his condition his not worrying currently.

“Like you heard, the poison I was given damaged my liver, but doctors are doing all it takes to have my condition better,” he said.
