Although Uganda lost 3-1 to Zambia in the Africa Nations Championships (CHAN) a couple of months back, the only goal scored by Uganda Cranes, is among the 7 goals competing for the Best African Goal Award in the 2018 CAF Awards.
The spectacular goal was scored by Cranes forward, Derrick Nsibambi, who also plies his trade from Egyptian side Smouha SC, when he jumped and twisted his body in the air to tap a volley from Milton Kariisa’s cross.
The CAF awards will take place on January 8 in Dakar, Senegal and the 24-year-old’s goal is facing off with goals scored by Anice Badri, Makusu Mundele, Alaine Traore, Chaupo Moting, Thembi Kgatlana, Gabrielle Onguena.
Meanwhile, Uganda Cranes are also in the race for the Men’s National Football Team of the Year award alongside other five countries – Guinea Bisau, Kenya, Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Mauritania.
The development comes after Cranes Captain and goalkeeper, Denis Onyango was Tuesday left out on the final list of the 3 players competing for the Best African Player of the Year Award.
