She said that it is estimated that globally, by 2020, 75% of mobile traffic will be generated by video content.
“With the growing penetration of smartphones, we have seen a shift globally from entertainment moving from big screens to a mobile phone”.
“Today, the mobile phone is perhaps the single most important device or utility for entertainment. For us at MTN, we have done a lot of investment and continue to do so in laying out our network – 3G and 4G but we are also cognizant of the fact that internet consumption must be affordable,” said Kayemba.
She said the DStv App Now data plan will be a time-based bundles which implies that for the period of the time that the user has the bundle, he/she will consume unlimited TV content.
The new bundles include data which can only be used on DStv Now are available in two sizes; 2 hours costing Shs 6,000- and 4-hours costing Shs 12,000.
To purchase a bundle, DStv customers will dial *165*82#ok. The data bundles last for 24 hours from the time of purchase and are calculated according to viewing time.
On the concerns relating to reliability of internet and value for money for consumers, Kayemba said MTN Uganda commits to quality service.
“For you to be comfortable with your data balance, you can check, expect it will tell you in minutes not MBs. You are able to track how you are using it. Also, we launch a product for success and not for failure. And as a brand we have proven ourselves over time despite a few issues,” she said..
