A police officer in Atiak district, northern Uganda, has died after a house he was sleeping in collapsed following a heavy down pour on Easter Sunday.
The officer identified as Okidi Denis was attached to Field Force Police, Pabo police post and deployed at Atiak sugar factory. It is reported that heavy rain (accompanied by heavy winds) which pounded the area on Sunday destroyed the house in which Okidi was sleeping.
According to Jimmy Patrick Okema, the Aswa region Police spokesman, the incident occurred at around 5pm at the residence of the deceased situated in the Atiak sugar plantation.
Another police officer identified as PC Ocola James sustained serious injuries and has been rushed to the hospital while PC Onyait Pius, PC Oboya Walter and PC Kabila Lawrence are said to have sustained minor injuries.
“It was during heavy rains that destroyed their house which fell on them,” Okema said.
By publication time, a team of CID officer from Elegu had already been dispatched to the scene.
According to Okema, all arms and ammunitions are safe and this is the first of such an unfortunate incident has occured in the region.
