Minister Kibuule’s Children Die After Drowning in a Swimming Pool

State Minister for Water, Ronald Kibuule has lost his children (twins) after they reportedly drowned in a swimming pool at his Mukono residence and died.

The shocking incident occurred at around 5pm on Monday at the Minister’s residence in Mbalala, Mukono district.

The kids who were two years old are suspected to have been playing around the swimming pool unattended to when they drowned and lost their lives.

Their bodies have since been taken to Mulago national referral hospital for postmortem, Police said.

At the time of the drowning, sources say, the Minister and his wife were not home. It is not clear what their (children) supervisors were doing.

Deputy Kampala Metropolitan Police (KMP) spokesperson, ASP  Luke Owoyesigyire said Police received information about the incident at around 6:30pm on Monday.  

 

“Information was received from  DPC Mukono about the drowning of twins Kato  and Waswa around two and a half years male juveniles of Hon. Kibule Ronald,  resident of Kasenge village, Mbalala Parish, Nama Sub County in Mukono district,” ASP Owoyesigyire said on Tuesday.

Police say the drowning occurred at 5:30pm hours from the swimming pool located at his home.

A case file vide Mukono DEF 06/2019 has been opened. A team of Police detectives led by SP Sseguya Rogers visited the crime scene and investigations are ongoing.

There will be a prayer service later on Tuesday and burial will take place on Wednesday in Mukono.

Many people have been extending condolence messages to the family of Minister Kibuule for the loss.

Reactions

Prime Minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda tweeted: “Have learnt with deep shock, the tragedy that has befallen Hon Kibuule & family - the drowning of your/our innocent children. We stand in solidarity with you during this trying period & pray to the almighty God to comfort you, and rest the souls of our twins in eternal peace”.

Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Frank Tumwebaze said: “I have just learnt with deep pain and shock about the tragedy of Comrade and brother Hon Kibuule’s children. May the almighty God be with him and his family in this most painful moment”.

The Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations, Lt Gen David Muhoozi said: “It is with great sadness that I learnt about the tragic passing of Honourable Kibuule’s children. May God comfort your family in this difficult time my brother”.

On his part, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Oulanyah said: “I have heard with sadness of the tragedy that has befallen Minister Kibuule. I know the pain of losing your sons is so deep that it will not heal with words but please accept my deepest condolences”.
