The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has resolved to adopt voting by lining up for all party flag bearers at Parliamentary and Local Council Level while members of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) as well as the Presidential flag bearer shall be resolution by circulation mode of voting.
The party decision was taken by the Central Executive Committee (CEC) chaired by the party National Chairman, President Yoweri Museveni during a meeting held yesterday at State House Entebbe.
While addressing the media at the party headquarters in Kyadondo, the party Secretary General, Justine Kasule Lumumba said that the resolutions were taken following a report by her office to the party organ.
“Yesterday CEC had a meeting and there was a resolution that was taken cognizant to the fact that CEC had earlier in December 2018 adopted the NRM political roadmap up to 2020 which roadmap was amended in 2019 and 2020 to take into account the prevailing circumstances of COVID-19,” Lumumba said.
Lumumba noted that the CEC resolution followed a combination of available options for both the party’s internal elections as well as the elections of its flag bearers to all nation elective positions.
“Taking cognizant of all the pervasive factors of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide clear guidance to the party and lead it to overwhelming victory; CEC adopted the NRM political roadmap, for the 2020/21 national elections with specific reference to the approved timelines for all internal elections as shall be announced by the NRM Electoral Commission,” Lumumba said.
She revealed that CEC as well resolved to specifically adopt lining up as appropriate mode of voting for NRM primaries to generate candidates for Parliamentary and Local Government elections in strict compliance and observance to COVID-19 regulations under the public health act by the Ministry of Health.
“CEC also resolved to specifically adopt resolution by circulation as the mode of voting for the elections of the NRM Presidential flag bearer and the Members of the NRM Central Executive Committee,” Lumumba noted.
She added that the party top organ also commended the said approved methodology and timeline for the NRM internal elections for the respective organs and structures as part of the NRM civic and voter mobilization processes.
The party principal noted that the details for the timeline of internal elections shall be communicated by the party Chairman Electoral Commission, Dr. Fredrick Tanga Odoi.
She however noted that from August 6 to 8, the party shall have the National Conference and the Central Executive Committee with the intention of getting Presidential flag bearer of the party
