Luweero Chief Magistrates Court has Tuesday released Ruhinda County MP, Dononzio Kahonda, on a Shs500,000 non cash bail.
Last month, Kahonda was picked from Kirinya Prison in Jinja district and driven to Luweero Chief Magistrates court where he was charged on two counts of forgery and uttering false documents.
State alleges that Kahonda uttered a Uganda Certificate of Education document to UNEB in which he claimed to be Dickson Mutabazi, yet he is not.
Kahonda was also accused of forging a medical report at the UPDF’s Junior Command and Staff College in Jinja in the same name.
Kahonda was sentenced by Jinja Chief Magistrate, John Francis Kaggwa, in June to Kirinya prison on the same charges.
Last week, Jinja High Court Judge, Eva Luswata, granted Kahonda a Shs100m non-cash bail but the legislator was quickly re-arrested and returned to prison until August 1.
On Tuesday, 01 August 2017, Kahonda was produced before Luweero Chief Magistrate, Charles Sserubugga, who released the legislator on bail.
The three people who stood surety for him were each bonded Shs5,000,000 not cash despite objections by Luweero State Prosecutor, Beatrice Alok.
Speaking after his release, Kahonda accused Justice minister, Kahinda Otafiire, of having a hand in his continued incarceration instead of focusing on development which the people of Mitooma district want.
Kahonda defeated minister Otafiire to win the Ruhinda county parliamentary seat in 2016 elections.
