Uganda’s 1126 Samples Test Negative for Coronavirus, 837 From Truck Drivers


KAMPALA —  Uganda’s Ministry of Health reports that 1126 samples tested on Saturday, 18th April, were negative for Covid-19.

Out of  the 1,126 samples tested, 837 were from truck drivers while the other 289 were from individuals in quarantine and contacts of confirmed cases.

Health Minister Jane Ruth Aceng said Uganda has a cumulative number of 55 confirmed cases, of these, 22 have recovered while 33 are active cases.

“Please note that this is a cumulative number comprising recoveries,” she said, explaining that active cases are the cases that still have the virus and are undergoing treatment at the respective health facilities.”

Dr. Aceng also revealed that all staff in Entebbe hospital who have been taking care of the patients have been screened for COVID-19 and all tested negative and that a repeat test will be done after two weeks

All tests are carried out from Uganda Virus Research Institute which is an African Centre for Excellence
