UNEB to Release 2018 PLE Results on Thursday

Education Minister, Janet Museveni (R) and UNEB chairperson, Prof Mary Okwakol (L) releasing the 2017 PLE results.

The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) is set to release results of last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) tomorrow, Thursday January 17.

The event will be presided over by the Minister of Education and Sports, Janet Museveni, from the President’s Office conference hall.

According to Patrick Muinda, Ministry of Education spokesperson, prior to the release of the PLE results, the examinations body will Wednesday brief the Minister on the results as well as the general performance of the pupils.

“UNEB officials will brief the Minister of Education Janet Museveni on the performance of last year’s Primary Leaving Examinations on Wednesday January 16, 2019 at 11am and later release them on Thursday January 17, 2019 at 11am at President’s Office,” Mr Muinda said.

A total of 671,923 candidates registered to sit the 2018 PLE from 13,072 centres across the country compared to 646,041 from 12,751 in 2017 out of whom 346,963 are females and 324,960 are males.

Out of the total registered candidates, 476,131 were from Universal Primary Education (UPE) schools and 195,792 from private schools.

In 2017, boys performed better than their counterparts, the girls and an improvement in performance of Social Studies and Science.

Non-Universal Primary Education (Non-UPE) schools, which are found in urban areas, performed better than their UPE counterparts.

But for the UPE schools in urban areas, the performance was no different from that of the non-UPE primary institutions.

How was it in last year’s examinations? Was the status quo maintained? Well, we wait and see how it unfolds tomorrow.
