Former SFC Commander, Don Nabasa Heads to AMISOM as Museveni Shakes Up Military

President Yoweri Museveni and Commander of the armed forces, has Saturday effected changes in the military reassigning a number of senior military officers to new duties.

In the changes, Maj Gen Don William Nabasa, the former Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), has been appointed Contingent Commander of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).

Nabasa assumed the command of the SFC, in January 2017, taking over from Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who was appointed Senior Presidential Adviser on military affairs.

Maj Gen Sam Kiwanuka who served as Uganda’s Military Attaché to Ethiopia, based at Uganda’s embassy in Addis Ababa has been appointed Chief of Production and Welfare, Maj Gen Moses Ddiba Ssentongo, who worked as one of the two Deputy Director Generals of the National Enterprise Corporation, the investment vehicle of the UPDF is now the Chief Mubende Rehabilitation Centre and Maj Gen Hudson Mukasa who has been the Military Attaché to Uganda’s Embassy to Kenya, based in Nairobi has been appointed the Chief of Staff Reserve Forces.

Maj Gen Francis Okello has been assigned to the Commandant National Defense College, Maj Gen Innocent Oula is now the Deputy Managing Director National Enterprise Corporation (NEC), Brig Gen Emanuel Rwashande has been appointed Chief Civil Military Cooperation and Brig Gen Stephen Oluka and Brig Gen George Etyang have been deployed to Opetation Wealth Creation (OWC).

The President has also appointed Brig Gen Jeff Mukasa as the Director Counter Terrorism, Brig Gen William Beinomugisha as the second Division Commander, Brig Gen James Kaija is now the Defense Advisor UK and Brig Gen Fred Karara has been appointed the Defense Attaché to Uganda’s Embassy to Sudan.

Others include Brig Gen Christopher Bbossa Defense Attaché to Uganda’s Embassy to China, Brig Gen Mike Kisame Defense Attaché to Uganda’s Embassy to Kenya, Brig Gen Joseph Balikudembe as the 3 Division Commander, Brig Gen Simon Ocan Defense Attaché to Uganda’s Embassy to Switzerland and Brig Gen Michael Kabango, who previously served as the AMISOM Sector One contingent Commander, has been assigned to AU Peace Support Operations Department.

Former Defense spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye has been sent to OWC, Brig Gen Mathew Gureme is now the Chief of Training
and Recruitment, Brig Gen Tingira Irumba is now the Chief of Policy and Plans.

Defense spokesperson Brig Gen Richard Karemire has been sent to the EAC Secretariat as Defence Liaison Officer(DLO) and replaced with Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso.

Also Brig Gen Charles Asiimwe has been appointed Commander National Counter Terrorism Centre, Brig Gen Richard Otto as the Deputy Chief of Military Intelligence, Brig Gen James Nambale has been appointed as the Defense Attaché to Uganda’s Embassy to Turkey, Col Robert Ocama has been sent OWC, Col Bahoku Barigye is now the Defense Attaché to Uganda’s Embassy to Cuba andCol Keith Katungi as the Commandant Military Police.
