Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC) Chairperson, Med Kaggwa has Wednesday morning passed on after reportedly collapsing in his car around Mulago in Kampala.
Although no official communication has by press time been made by authorities or his family on circumstances surrounding his death, reports indicate that the incident happened at the Mulago round-about.
Kaggwa, a lawyer and former Kawempe South MP, is said to have been driving himself in his official vehicle when he became unconscious. It took the onlookers to break the car windows to remove him and rushed him to Case Medical Centre, where is was pronounced dead.
It is reported that Kaggwa was rushing to United Nations Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) offices for a media round table discussion where he was one of the panelists expected to discuss children’s rights in Uganda.
Medics from Case Hospital where Kaggwa was rushed told a news conference on Wednesday that the deceased was rushed there by a doctor.
They added that efforts were made to save his life, in vain.
“Mr Med Kaggwa was brought here by a doctor who found him lying unconscious in his car at Mulago roundabout. He arrived here at 7:55am. We worked tirelessly but at 9:00 am, he breathed his last. The cause of his death is not known yet,” one of the doctors at Case Clinic said.
