International Friendly: Okwi Earns Uganda a Win Against Ethiopia

Cranes new coach, Coach McKinstry Jonathan Brian has started his national team duties on a high note after defeating Ethiopia 1-0 on Sunday away from home in an international friendly engagement.

The game was played at Bahir Dar Stadium in Ethiopia.

Cranes’ goal and the only score of the game was tapped by striker Emannuel Arnold Okwi who plays for Al Ittihad of Egypt in the 19th minute off Joseph Ochaya’s cross.

The coach is expected to use this game to prepare for the two AFCON 2021 Qualifiers against Burkina Faso and Malawi to be played between November 11 and 19.

For Ethiopia, the match was held in preparation for their return leg match against Rwanda in the CHAN tournament. They lost 1-0 in the first leg match played in Mekelle.

Meanwhile, South Sudan has Sunday afternoon beaten Seychelles 1-0 in the second leg of the preliminary stage of the AFCON qualifiers to advance to group A joining Uganda, Malawi and Burkina Faso.
