Some six boda boda cyclists and leaders of the Boda Boda 2010 group for Makindye have reportedly been arrested after armed security operatives have Saturday raided the premises of Top Radio.
SoftPower News understands that armed officers from the Internal Security Organization (ISO) stormed the premises of Top radio in Bwaise claiming they were in pursuit of leaders of Boda Boda 2010.
Steven Dunstan Busuulwa, the Top Radio manager told SoftPower News that “they [armed officers] said they had come to arrest the three leaders of Boda boda 2010 who were hosted on the show today”.
The group leaders who had been hosted on the show are Kafeero Atanansi, Deus Kananura and a one Joseph.
The armed operatives allegedly aimed a gun at one of the radio staff at the reception before banging the doors to force themselves into the studios to get the three persons.
In the process, Sulaiman Mutebi, a journalist with Bukedde TV who had been covering the events was assaulted and a door broken.
“They went away with six boda boda guys who had gathered outside and one Joseph the leader of boda 2010 in Makindye,” Busuulwa said.
A senior source in ISO told SoftPower News; “The boda boda 2010 members had gone to Top Radio to incite other criminals to demonstrate”.
The DPC for Wandegeya Police station later came and took statements from eyewitnesses.
The ISO operation comes only hours after military intelligence arrested some members of the same Boda Boda 2010 group in Kyengera, Wakiso district including Kiwalabye Huzair who is said to be a brother to Boda Boda 2010 patron, Abdul Kitatta. Huzair is suspected to have been involved in the murder of the Case Hospital accountant, Francis Ekulanga whose body was found burnt.
Last year, Security Minister Tumukunde who was featuring on NBS TV’s Morning Breeze warned Boda Boda 2010 of the impending purge of criminals within the group.
Tumukunde said: “We are going to attach more serious charges to some of these people. We cannot afford to allow lawlessness and this is a warning to them.”
He was responding to a question by Simon Njala Kaggwa about the activities of some quasi-security groups especially Boda Boda 2010.
Tumukunde said the group will be handled.
Boda Boda 2010, which is headed by Abdallah Kitatta, the NRM chairman for Rubaga division, has wrecked havoc in parts of the city.
It is alleged that the group has the support of Gen Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
