Jinja District Residence District Commissioner (RDC), Joseph Sakwa has been granted a non-cash bail by the Jinja Chief Magistrate, Jessica Chemeri.

The bail application was heard through video conferencing technology between the Court in Jinja and Kirinya Prison.

Sakwa was arrested by the Police in Jinja on Friday April 24 and has since been charged of Manslaughter, Malicious damage of property and Robbery.

The RDC presented a total of four sureties including Butembe County MP, Nelson Lufafa, Kagoma County MP, Moses Walyomu Muwanika, Mayor Jinja Municipality, Majidu Batambuze and the LC5 Chairman, Titus Kisambira.

Despite a call to dismiss the bail application by the State prosecutor, the Magistrate granted Sakwa bail noting that she was convinced that the sureties presented are credible members of the community and are capable of presenting the accused before court when he is needed to appear.

The Magistrate however prohibited Sakwa from discussing the case that is before court in the media adding that this will amount to contempt of Court and would cause cancellation of his bail.

It should be remembered that Sakwa was arrested by the State House Abti-Corruption Unit headed by Lt. Col. Edith Nakalema on allegations of implementing the Presidential directives as measures to fight COVID-19.

Sakwa is accused by a certain family in Jinja of aiding the death of their member, Charles Isanga together with his men a one Bumali Bazimbwewa and Muhammad Simba.
