The Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has Friday officially resumed her duties a week after she returned to the country from Agha Khan Hospital in Nairobi, Kenya where she was receiving medical treatment.
Kadaga returned from Nairobi on April 15 and has since been under bed rest so as to totally regain her strength.
Dressed in a blue Kitengi dress, the Speaker carried a healthy look and smiled all way through as Parliament staff led by the clerk and MPs on the steering committee of the 64th Commonwealth parliamentary conference led her through preparations for the meeting.
Kadaga’s first official duty was the launch of the website for the 64th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference which is scheduled for September 22 to 23, 2019.
The Speaker who thanked God for enabling her come back in time noted that the high level event shall take place at the Commonwealth Resort Hotel in Munyonyo.
“This is a very special occasion while we launch the website and the theme of the conference is; Adaption, Engagement and Revolution of Parliaments in Rapidly Changing Commonwealth,” Kadaga said.
She said the country is proud to host this conference which was last hosted here in 1997.
“Our last meeting was in Bangladesh; over 500 parliamentarians, staff and decision makers across commonwealth countries shall be in attendance and we shall be discussing a lot of issues to do with legislation around the world,” Kadaga said.
The website will be used to facilitate interactions among the member countries.
Kadaga has also encouraged delegates to come on time and have a chance to tour the Pearl of Africa so as to witness the interesting tourism sites.
