The Head Coach of the newly promoted football club to the FUFA Big League, Katwe United, Hassan Mubiru has said he is optimistic about his side playing in the country’s top flight.
Mubiru made the remarks on Friday, moments after renewing contracts of eleven players at the club’s office in Makindye.
“Whoever thinks that Katwe United is comfortable only remaining in the Big League is joking. We have bigger aspirations which we must achieve. We have never dreamt of being a mid-table team, no. We aspire to be on top and cruise to the Premier League next season,” said Mubiru.
The event which was presided over by the club’s Vice Chairman, Allan Luyimbazi saw contracts of among players team Captain Mukwaya Reagan alias Sadat, Ssendiisa Nicolas, Ssemwanga Saul, Muwanguzi Benjamin, Shafiq Moses, Lwetute Denis, Lubowa Michael, Ssemwogerere Wasswa, Katumba Alex, Bukenya Moses and Mulindwa Rayan renewed.
The terms and conditions and other details of the signed contracts however remain confidential between the players and the Club, reads club statement.
The club is expected to unveil a number of new players next week to continue strengthening all its departments.
For the last three weeks, the team has been conducting pre-season training with emphasis on circuit training at SEB Hotel for the first two weeks, intending to develop muscle power and endurance.
Players engaged in squat jumps, dumbbell push press, knee lifts with medicine ball, crunch with lateral pull down and wall slides.
But, since Monday this week, the boys have been training from their home, Katwe Playgrounds.
The ‘Tulibanyiivu’ side will host their FUFA Big League home games from StarTimes Stadium Lugogo.
