The journey for Uganda football champions, KCCA FC in the group stages of the continent’s top most tournament, CAF champions league, kick starts today as they take on Township Rollers of Botswana.
A 32 man contingent of both players and officials left the country for Botswana on Wednesday morning aboard Kenya Airways and will have their first ever group stage match in this tournament at 10pm from the Botswana national stadium.
The Kasasiro boys are ranked as underdogs in group A since they are appearing at this level for the first time. Other teams in the Group are eight time African Champions, Egyptian Al Ahly and the two time CAF champions league giants, Esperance FC.
Mike Mutebi’s side will thereafter host Al Ahly in Kampala on May 15, before travelling to North Africa to play against Esperance on July 17. The Tunisians will in a fortnight be hosted in Kampala in a return leg with KCCA FC on July 27.
The Ugandan side will in a return match host Rollers on August 17 before ending their group stage journey in Egypt against Al Ahly FC on August 28.
Township Rollers have already issued 100 free tickets to their fans as means of boosting home support.
KCCA FC is already assured of USD 555,000 (Shs 2 billion) as qualification fee and will get more money depending on how it will perform in the group.
