Kiruhura: Police Exhumes Body of Pupil Who was Kidnapped and Killed

Police in Kiruhura district are holding 11 suspects in connection to the killing of an 8-year-old pupil.

According to the Rwizi region police spokesperson, ASP Samson Kasasira, a case of missing person was reported on July 31 July in Ruhunda village, Nyakabungo parish in Nyakashashara sub-county in Kiruhura district.

Police tracked and arrested the suspects on August 10, 2019 in Kiruhura district.

These were Alex Asiimwe alias Isaac, 17, and Enos Taremwa, 16, all casual labourers in Kiruhura district.

Upon interrogation, the suspects led police to a distance away from the deceased’s home where the young boy was killed and his body buried.

Asiimwe told Police that they demanded a ransom worth USD 100,000 from the deceased’s family to have him released.

The deceased was identified as Ronald Kangume, 8, a primary school pupil who was staying with the grandfather, George Kamugisha after his mother divorced the father went to work in abroad.

A team from Kampala led by AIGP Moses Byaruhanga- the Director Police Health Services visited the scene on Tuesday and exhumed the body for postmortem.

According to the police medical report, the body had already decomposed but was intact with all the bones present.

After postmortem, the body was handed over to the family members for burial.

ASP Kasasira says that Asiimwe who was one of the key suspects was a herdsman to Mzee George Kamugisha.

He added that the suspects connected to the gruesome murder increased to 11 people including Pascal Kisimbe a banker attached to the Centenary Bank main branch in Kampala.

Asiimwe alleged that Kisimbe asked them to get him a head of a Muhima child to perform his ritual sacrifices.

Kasasira said the investigations are ongoing and suspects will be moved to Kampala for more inquiries.

The case is registered in Kiruhura under CRB 803/2019.

Kasasira says that Rwizi region recorded a total of 10 murders in the month of July related to boda boda kidnaps later turned into murders, mob killings, domestic violence and actual murders focusing on boda boda riders with a motive of stealing their motorcycles.
