Renowned music producer and artiste manager, Bushingtone, has said the revived Uganda Music Association (UMA) will give musicians a unified voice.

This comes after the Association got new leadership. It will be led by Sophie Gombya as President who is deputized by singer Ykee Benda.

“Artistes have had their personal differences and ideology while others are driven by ego. But coming up to form this Association is to have a united voice as a group setting a side our differences,” Bushingtone told SoftPower News on Wednesday.

We met him at the National theatre where he and other musicians  had convened for the swearing—in ceremony of the new leaders.

“Even in the media you people fight but that does not mean your breaking the entities, artistes who have not been looking eye to eye are all united under this Association and we are excited to push it forth regardless of the situation”.

Musicians like Dr. Tee, Silver Kyagulanyi, Benon Kibuka, Rena Nalumansi, rodent (Kabako), Haruna Mubiru, the B2C trio, Catherine Kusasira and Phina Magerwa among others attended the swearing-in at the National Theatre on Wednesday.

The State Minister of Tourism, Godfrey Kiwanda Suubi too was present. He attended together with  Maj Gen Elly Kayanja who represented Gen Salim Saleh. Gen Saleh had been invited as guest of honor.

According to Bushingtone who is the Public Relations Officer for the Association, all elected leaders will serve for a period of two years as per the set constitution.

However, he stated that those who will fall short in fulfilling their obligation can be impeached.

He said abuse of office will not be tolerated as this will affect the normal running and operation of the Association.

Singer Silver Kyagulanyi who doubles as the legal counsel for the Association told this news website that the formation of UMA will benefit all right minded musicians because they are united under the law.

He added that this will enable them negotiate collectively on big undertakings including musical deals and policy discussion as opposed to a few people battling it out.

Kyagulanyi revealed that membership is open and all those interested in joining can reach out to the UMA office.

Bobi Wine too has declared his membership and been placed on the legal committee along side his name sake Silver Kyagulanyi.
