Police in Mbarara has killed a suspected robber following a crackdown on a criminal gang which has been operating in areas of Rwizi region and greater Bushenyi.
According to Rwizi region spokesperson, ASP Samson Kasasira, the operation happened Friday morning in Nyakaizi cell, Kakoba Division Mbarara municipality.
The group of suspected criminals was trailed following an aggravated robbery that happened last week at Bam petrol station in Kabwohe town council, Sheema municipality, Sheema district.
ASP Kasasira says that over Shs 26m was robbed at gun-point before the assailants jumped on motorcycle number UEB 527V and sped off.
However, the group was trailed by operatives attached to Flying Squad. During the operation, a one Mbaine Yonasani, 40, a resident of Ishaka in Bushenyi district was put out of action and three suspects apprehended.
These include; Abbey Nyonyintono, Patrick Kato and Odeke Hussein who were transfered to Sheema police station in the jurisdiction where the offence was committed.
A Sub Machine Gun (SMG) UG PSO 3040235607221 with two rounds of ammunition was also recovered from the group and the deceased’s body taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital.
