Mukono Woman Raped By Facebook Friend, Clothes Taken

Police is investigating circumstances under which Namusoke Sarah, a resident of Wantoni Mukono district was Sunday raped by a person she met on social media, who as well took her clothes and phone.

Police spokesperson, CP Fred Enanga, told journalists on Monday that Namusoke says she could not identify the suspect.

“She has been interacting with an unidentified person on social media for sometime including exchanging some attractive messages which consequently saw her leave Mukono to Kamonkoli in Mbale to her said friend on March 3,” Enanga explained.

“On arrival, he met the man who drove her through different villages in Mbale before sexually assaulting her in the car and went away with her clothes and phone,” he added.

Enanga said on being discovered by the Police, Namusoke could neither describe the identity and the car of the said rapist nor his name, details that would help Police in its investigations.

The Police spolespspoke has warned girls and women against exposing themselves to strangers they meet on social media.

Police says some ill-motivated individuals have resorted to using social media to lure females into criminality or commit crimes against them.

In a related incident, Police is holding Nantege Esther of Nateete Mutundwe, who staged her own  kidnap and demanded a Shs 600,000 ransom from her relatives. She is said to have left her home on February 28 and hidden at Pastor Robert Kayanja’s Church in Lubaga.

“She contacted her parents and told them that three women dressed in black had kidnapped her and they wanted at ransom, or else they kill her,” Enanga told the press.

The family would later send Shs 500,000 to the ‘captors’ and on March 2, Nantege returned home, but her parents who were suspicious alerted Police and she was apprehended.

Enanga says, upon interrogation, Nantege revealed that she only wanted capital to start trading in fish. It was established that she had withdrawn only Shs 50,000 and the Shs 450,000 was still on her phone.

Enanga who cautioned members of the public of acts of self kidnap, said that Nantege is going to be charged with demanding money by menace.
