Son to opposition politician and President General of the Democratic Party (DP), Norbert Mao has finally surfaced three days after he went missing.
The 19-year-old boy identified as Mao Nicholas Hope is said to have vanished on Monday this week.
Police said Nicholas left his father’s home and did not return on the day in question. A search operation by security agencies had been mounted to locate him.
On Thursday, Norbert Mao posted that his son had been located.
He said Nicholas was found at his cousin’s place sleeping. He wanted some time alone, the father said.
“Hallelujah! The hours of frantic search (some of which were blind alleys) have paid off. We have found Nico! I give the highest form of praise one can give the Living God. Nico is well. The time was 55 minutes past midnight,” Mao wrote on social media.
“We found him asleep. His guitar leaning on the wall. His host (a cousin) said he wanted some time alone to reflect. I let him sleep. No fuss”.
Mao says he wrote him (son) a letter which he will read when he wakes up.
According to the father, the cousin said he (Nicholas) had written a note which he wanted dropped at their home to let the family know that he was fine. However, the heavy downpour frustrated this plan.
The DP President applauded all individuals and authorities that have supported the search efforts for his son.
“How I wish I could embrace all those whose outpourings of prayer, love and encouragement kept me from imagining and believing the worst”.
“Your calls and messages kept our spirits high. Concerned people from all walks of life in Uganda and abroad offered support. I especially thank our friends for keeping us from the abyss of despair. Indeed friends are relatives you choose. We may not be related by blood but we are related by love. May God bless you all abundantly,” he added.
