The National Conference is one of the eight and the top most policy organs of the ruling political party National Resistance Movement (NRM). Others are National Executive Council, The Central Executive Committee, The District Conference, The Sub-county Conference, The Parish Conference, The Branch and The Cell.
Apart from the policy organs, NRM also has administrative organs, special organs and NRM Caucuses in the legislative organs.
Today, Saturday thousands of delegates of the National Conference have thronged Mandela National Stadium Namboole for the party’s national conference meeting which is underway.
The National Conference comprises of the National Chairperson, 1st National Vice Chairperson, 2nd National Vice Chairperson (female), 6 Vice Chairpersons representing the Regions of Uganda including East, Central, North,West, Kampala and Karamoja, Members of the National Executive Council, The Secretary General, National Treasurer, The Deputy Secretary General, Deputy National Treasurer and Members of the NRM Municipal Executive Committees.
Others include Members of the NRM Municipal Councils, Promoters of the NRM Organization, Executive Committees of the NRM Branches in the Diaspora, NRM National Secretaries, NRM Members of Parliament, NRM members of East Africa Legislative Assembly (EALA), Members of NRM Historical Leaders Forum, Members of the National Executive Committees of all Special Organs, NRM Chairpersons of Districts, NRM parliamentary flag bearers, NRM flag bearers for district chairpersons, Municipality mayors, Members of NRM District Executive Committees, Members of the District Executive Committees of all Special Organs, NRM Members on District Councils and Chairpersons of Sub-county Conferences.
By 10am, all the earlier organised tents and seats were occupied to capacity with many other guests still seen queueing outside the stadium.
CEC is expected to consider among other things the proposal to amend the party’s Constitution to cater for voting by lining up behind candidates in primary elections as approved the National Executive Council on Friday at the Entebbe State house.
The members said lining up will address the challenges that have characterised the secret ballot in the past that include, financial implications and also the issue transparency as some losing contenders could give excuse of vote rigging.
President Yoweri Museveni who is also the NRM national Chairperson will preside over the meeting.
