NRM Wins Hoima, Kaabong Woman MP By-elections

The candidate of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM), Harriet Businge Mugenyi has won the Hoima District Woman MP by-elections after defeating the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) and joint opposition candidate, Asinasi Kamanda Nyakato.

In results announced by announced by the Hoima District Returning officer Matsiko Daglous, Businge polled 33,301 votes while Nyakato garnered 28,789 votes out of the total 62,090 valid votes cast for candidate.

The MP seat fell vacant after Tophace Kaahwa Byagira (NRM) chose to represent the newly created Kikuube District that was carved out of Hoima in July 2018.

In Kaabong, the NRM candidate Tubo Nakwang polled 22,532 votes and that of the FDC Adyaka Judith Nalibe got 1,692 votes.

The position fell vacant when the elected Woman Member of Parliament, Rose Lilly Akello opted to contest in Karenga, a new district carved out of Kaabong on July 1, 2019.

But, FDC’s Adyaka who was nominated on August 28 and asked the Electoral Commission to struck her name off the list of contestants for the post days to the polls and her request denied by her party, didn’t vote for herself.
