The Police Professional Standards Unit (PSU) have arrested the DPC of Mpigi, Kimera Seguya, after being found with Shs 5 million meant for exhibit.
Addressing journalists on Thursday in Kampala, PSU spokesperson, Vincent Ssekate said that following complaints from one of the locals, they deployed on the ground and the DPC fell prey.
The team recovered shs5 million meant to be recorded as exhibit from Seguya’s pockets yet he had not registered it. He had also not kept it in the store as is the procedure,” Ssekate said.
He said that the Investigating officer at the station, Twesigemukama Abraham had also been arrested and detained at Kira road police station in Kampala.
Ssekate added that in another incident in Mbale, the police land desk had been disbanded for being involved in corruption and case mismanagement .
According to PSU, a number of complaints had been lodged by members of the public against police officers on the land desk prompting an audit at the station that found over 17 case files unattended to.
“The OC CID Onesmus Mwesigwa and the officer in charge of the land desk, Isaac Were have been suspended and ordered to report to PSU for investigations,” Ssekate said.
The PSU spokesperson revealed that other CID officers at the station had been recommended for refresher courses and the process of vetting for their replacements is ongoing as part of the efforts to clean the police force.
