Uganda has suffered a disappointing 3-0 loss to Tanzania in their last Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers group game, played at Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, Dar es Salaam.

Tanzania’s Simon Msuva opened the dead lock when he gave Taifa Stars a lead in the 21st minute and broke Uganda’s clean sheet record in the AFCON 2019 Qualifiers as well as putting a stop on goalkeeper, Denis Onyango’s clean sheet.

Erasto Nyoni scored Tanzania’s second goal in the 51st minute after Tanzania was rewarded with a penalty when Kirizistom Ntambi held the ball played in by Mbwana Samatta.

Samatta would later tap in the 3rd seven minutes later.

Tanzania had gone 39 years without qualifying for the final tournament and now joins Uganda, Kenya and Burundi as the countries from East Africa which have sealed slots in the final tourney to be hosted by Egypt from June 21 to July 19.

Coach Sebastian Desabre and captain, Denis Onyango yesterday told reporters that they were to use this game as a buildup match for the final tournament, since they had already qualified in November last year.

From group L, Uganda and Tanzania have gone through with 13 and 8 points respectively, leaving behind Lesotho and Cape Verde.
