Now Police has issued a statement indicating that one of the people who sustained injuries has also died. He has been identified as Bugembe Amin. He had been admitted at Mulago hospital.

SP Patrick Onyango, the spokesperson for Kampala Metropolitan Police has also revealed that three suspects have since been arrested to aid the ongoing investigation into the gruesome incident.

“We have arrested three suspects to assist us with investigations. We shall not disclose their identities as it may jeopardize our investigations,” SP Onyango said.

Police says the investigations “are going on well” and that “there at good leads” they are pursuing.

The amount of money robbed at the shop has not yet been established, Police said on Wednesday.

A witness who works at the shop disclosed to this news website on Wednesday that the gunmen cordoned off the precincts of the shop and that one of them took cover under a trailer that was parked outside.

He kept shooting in the direction of the main road.

Asked how long it took Police to respond, the witness said the shooting went on for about 30 minutes to interrupt the normal flow of traffic.

“They (robbers) spent about 20 minutes blocking the road. One of them was shooting towards the road to stop vehicles from moving. The vehicles from either side stopped and they (robbers) did their mission”.

The witness could not rule out the fact that there could have been someone at the shop who was making surveillance and feeding the robbers with information.

“It could be that there was someone on the site who was giving them information. Because this site is very big, we attend to numerous customers. If a customer comes, they are at liberty to inspect wherever they need to go in order to look at whatever they want to buy. We don’t stop anyone”.

“It is possible that the informant disguised as a customer”.

He said after getting the money, the gunmen got onto the motorcycles, they rode off towards Kampala but took a turn on the left which is about 100 meters from the shop.
