There’s no doubt, Uganda’s music industry is evolving quite fast and competition has never been stiffer. And this is largely attributed to the new names that are breaking out almost on a daily.
But it is those with an X-factor – unique voice, outstanding lyrics and good production – that will take the day.
Dina Rukoti is one of the newest artistes whose career seems promising, going by her latest single ‘Magoba’. Written and produced by Ronie Pro (who did Bebe Cool’s ‘Wire Wire’), ‘Magoba’ is a relaxed love-themed song that will have you hooked to the end. And it has everything to do with Dina’s well pieced lyrics – a blend of Luganda and English, and a fresh sound that sits with the melodic track.
The video released this month was shot by Zyga Phix is equally well edited. It’s dominated by Dina and a male video vixen who plays the charming guy she pours praises onto.
It was shot on location along one of the sections of the River Nile, capturing part of the landscape features. There’s not much details – subjects and sets – but video still scores highly in its simplicity.
Dina Rukoti, real names Kyasiimire Diana, is a student at Makerere University Business school (MUBs) pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Procurement and Supply Chain Management.
She is signed under Runo Concepts Management.
Her sound is RnB, Reggae and Zouk. So far, she has 3 singles to her name – Magoba, Mbali Nawe and Feeling – having launched her music career in December of 2018.
She will be one to look out for this year as her Management says she is consumed in studio sessions with more songs lined up. In fact, word through the grapevine is, a Remix Magoba could feature BET award winning singer, Eddy Kenzo.
Dina is set to release ‘Bampe’, another single a few days from now.
