Residents of Buwambo parish, Gombe sub-county in Wakiso district have Monday discovered a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG), police reports. The Police Spokesperson SSP Emilian Kayima revealed that weapon was discovered by residents.
Police was immediately notified and the Counter Terrorism Unit rushed to the scene.
“There are reports that a Rocket Propelled Grenade has been found in Buwambo by people who were digging,” SSP Kayima told journalists on Monday during the weekly police press briefing at the Naguru headquarters.
“They called the Police and we sent in the bomb squad to ascertain how long this bomb has been there.”
Rocket-propelled grenades are shoulder-fired anti-tank weapons that fire rockets equipped with an explosive warhead. Most RPGs can be carried by an individual soldier and are affixed to a rocket motor which propels the RPG towards the target and they are stabilized in flight with fins.
Kayima advised the public to desist from tampering with such devices whenever they encounter them but rather to call the police.
Commenting on the state of security in the country, the Police Spokesperson described it as good.
Kayima said that the decision for the people to immediately raise a bomb alarm to the police was a testament to the good relationship between the police and the public.
